Without refractories, modern conveniences such as cars, planes, paved roads, plates, bottles and glasses would be nearly impossible to manufacture.
Materials in the refractory/steel sector are sold predominately for metallurgical applications to specialty refractory producers, steel foundries, and steel mills. End uses include monolithic vessel linings, special refractory shapes, tundish sprays, and ladle sands. These are high temperature applications where metal temperatures often exceed 3000 degrees Fahrenheit. Products include magnesia, olivine, chromite, zircon, and iron pyrites among others.
