It is believed sandstone, emery and corundum were the materials mixed together to form the first recognized grinding wheel. Today, grinding wheels are available in a wide variety of sizes ranging from 1/4 inch to several feet in diameter and used in manufacturing facilities worldwide to shape and finish metals and other materials.
Prince Minerals services the abrasives industry with a range of products including Iron Pyrites, Spodumene, Zircon Sand, Cryolite, and ceramic bond formulations. High purity Pyrites and Cryolite, screened and sized to industry specifications, are used as active fillers in the production of vitrified and organic grinding wheels. Zircon Sand is used as the base raw material in the production of zirconia and alumina-zirconia abrasive products. Spodumene is used to help form the glassy bond in vitrified grinding wheels.
